About Us

Kriya Miller is the founder and a core contributor of Sundog Magazine. She has spent the last 20 years facilitating outdoor adventures with youth and adults and running the small businesses that provide that.  The seasonal rhythms of the Great Lakes and childlike explorations are in her bones, now we just got to translate the magic to the page! The thought of Sundog arriving in mailboxes and bringing smiles to the faces of kids and families, sparking the possibilities of what adventures await, right in their own backyards, is the vision that has brought this project alive.

Tyler Franz is our featured photographer! All the best pics are his. Most of this website and the stunning features of the magazine are his awesome stuff!  (Supplementary photos come from Kriya and the small gaps are being filled by select stock photos, for the time being, until we can capture all photos within our own team.)

Shannon Doah is our featured illustrator! All the fun animals you'll see scurrying through the pages of the magazine, the fun mazes and drawings, and even the story illustrations, are all from Shannon!

Janelle Beeman is our outreach specialist. Her decades of experience working with children and animals, running her own businesses and forming trustworthy and friendly connections through multiple generations is such an exciting bundle of skills and gifts for Sundog.

And we are happy to be working with a local printer, VP Demand Creation Service.  They've offered the best quotes and the best service I've found yet and provide many additional services as well. Really top notch team over there!

We also look forward to growing our team and welcoming new contributors.  The biggest gap we'd like to fill in the near future is for a business manager who can help to grow subscriptions and run the business side of things. This person is a capable visionary who feels called to this project and wants to help us all thrive, together.

Our Content

Sundog aims to be your invitation and passport to exploring the wonders of your local places and spaces. Through engaging games, stories, creative challenges, and creature features, we ignite your imagination, learn together and spark a deeper sense of curiosity and connection. A large portion of each issue is intended to focus on things we can all do outside for free, and the plants and animals that can be found anywhere within the Great Lakes Bioregion. Our goal is to nurture your unique observations and inspirations, helping you develop your own fresh perspectives on the world around you. We remain committed to providing a space free from ideological, religious, or political agendas. While we avoid imposing specific views, we don't believe in over-sterilizing our content; expect to see cultural folklore, holiday traditions, and ancestral skills woven throughout our pages as they naturally emerge from contributors and readers. We aim to celebrate these diverse elements as a way to learn from one another while empowering every reader to stay rooted in their own unique perspectives and gifts.

Our Business Model

At SUNDOG, we champion the sovereignty and creative freedom of our contributors. Every partner retains full intellectual property rights to their articles, imagery, and art. Beyond securing your ownership, we are committed to fostering your professional growth and ensuring our success is shared. We want you thrive individually and as a part of SUNDOG. We believe in a fair compensation model where rewards scale with our collective achievements. As our publication expands, so does the financial return for those who build it with us. When the tide rises, all our ships rise together toward a future of mutual prosperity, abundance, joy connection and camaraderie.
